    Seniors

    Julie - Class of 2011

    J
ulie was our babysitter last year... mostly, (since Claire went to bed at 6pm until the time change this spring) she just sat in our house while we went out to dinner, but she was great at it. She is one of those people that just doesn't really stop smiling. ever. In fact, I wondered on my way to meeting her and her mom if I would be able to get a picture of her not smiling and if so, what it would look like. :-) Ha! I am not kidding here... I really had not seen her NOT smiling. Her mom told her to think of math in order to break her smile; it barely worked. Anyway, I was super excited that I had a last-minute opening to fill for her (early) senior portraits. She is one of the few rising seniors I know pretty well and was disappointed thinking the move might affect my availability to do their portraits. Fortunately, we got her in! And even though I barely caught her not-smiling, I think I captured her sweetness and her sweet smile. Happy viewing friends!

One of the first shots, I knew this was going to be fun!

    love the breezy lake shot!

a little time on a swing...

    Julie, you are so gorgeous.

    more laughing...

the next two are almost identical (two different cameras and lenses), but I love them both!

    down by the lake...

one of the first attempts at not smiling... she's still smirking a bit. :-)

then, we went out for a view...

    LOVE this one! pretty girl!

seriously, the light came at the perfect time!

and one scenic one to close (don't worry, Julie, I am not posting the one of you tripping). ;-) we miss you!

Meredith & Stephen - Engagement Portraits

    Y
ou know, for most people, it isn't a natural thing for a large camera to be pointed at them. For most of us, it feels invasive and awkward, so I will often tell people that half of my job while on a shoot is to help people feel more comfortable and natural. And for most of us, it takes a little time still to feel relaxed. But, Meredith & Stephen aren't like most of us... they jumped right in! Of course, it doesn't hurt that Meredith is a professional actress. Yeah, I suppose she's used to it. But even still, they both just glowed, and it seemed it took no time in each spot to get a good one. :-) ...which makes me super excited for their intimate Victorian-themed wedding in July at the Interlaken Inn in Lake Placid.

I have to admit, too... that I was a bit crazed when I ran out the door to their shoot... so much so that I FORGOT to grab my favorite camera and lens!!! I didn't realize it until I got to our meeting spot. Of course, I didn't point this out at the shoot because I didn't want the happy couple to worry about the results of their shoot. Fortunately, my back-up camera (D300) ain't too shabby outdoors, and the two lenses I had on me also are pretty great (50mm f/1.4 and 17-35mm f/2.8). Probably none of you would ever notice any difference, but I thought I should point it out. I have never ever ever forgotten any piece of equipment before, but even if I did, I always have back-ups handy. :-) On that note... happy viewing, friends!

i love these tall trees that seem to reach to the sky!

a little flare, and i love this spot!

there is just something about this next one...

    gorgeous!

favorite. hands down. the great thing about Meredith is that she needed little to no instruction on what to do. and, i absolutely love this image!

couldn't decide on the (straight-out-of-camera) vivid color...

... or the more vintage sepia?

even though the bugs were AWFUL in this spot, it was worth it. love it!

    sweetness.

and, a final one to close. Thanks so much, guys! can't wait for the wedding!

    Families

    The Bezio Family Portraits

    T
he Bezio family came back for more! Last October, I had the pleasure of capturing the three of them when Benjamin was about 5 months old. And, now, he has just turned one, and he is all over the place! He just learned how to walk, so naturally, I had to run. ;-) It is always so encouraging to me to have repeat clients; it reassures me that I'm doing something right. ha! Anyhow, I am about to head out again for another shoot, so without further ado.... Happy viewing, friends!

    sweet mommy moment.

BUBBLES! What baby doesn't love bubbles?

    love this one.

learning to walk is like mowing a lawn... ?

    fave.

something about a daddy with his baby... love it!

if this were my little family of three, i would want this real big above my sofa. love these trees!

it might look like Ben was lounging, but he really hated this chair. let's pretend he didn't. ;-)

wow-sers! I love his blue eyes!! stunning! Thanks again, guys!

    Personal

    Quality Girl Time

    Y
esterday, I had a fabulous bridal portrait session with Kristin yesterday, and I can't WAIT to share. But, out of respect of the bride, there are no peeks until her wedding day (June 12). So... something else for the blog... Claire and I have been back here in Saranac Lake since last Thursday. My mom came up on Monday to help watch her while I am away at these shoots and doing other work-related things. So, it is just us girls here at our old house (that is STILL for sale, for anyone interested in a 3bd/1ba house in town). I wasn't counting on the heat. Usually, May is pretty chilly and warmish in the day, but yesterday, it was in the mid-to-upper 80s... and today... 90! I don't remember, in the 5 years we lived here, it ever being NINETY!!! What-the-what?! Well, our little non-air-conditioned house stays pretty pleasant with all the cross-breeze, but at these temps, girls have to find other ways to stay cool (sugar melts, after all!). ;-) Anyhow... I improvised since I don't have much here, and I grabbed a large bowl and filled it with water. Claire had a ball. Happy viewing, friends!

(she was DRENCHED after this, by the way)

Claire is an intense little girl... VERY observant and studious. Content and calm in her pensive state. Watch our next child be a tornado. haha!

one of Claire's favorite things... peas!

    sweet girl... i love you!

Ann Marie & Rob - Keene, NY Portraits

    I
first met Ann Marie almost exactly four years ago at her sister's wedding (which Chris and I were the photographers for). I have always been amazed that Ann Marie hired me for her wedding after her sister's wedding, simply because right after the ceremony, instead of going down to the lake to grab the group formals, I was escorted to the hospital via ambulance because I severely sprained my ankle by foolishly walking backwards and rolling over the curb. Most. embarrassing. moment. ever. :-) But she did hire me (with the assurance I would have Chris with me, JUST in case- haha!), and I am so glad she did. Not only because I enjoyed photographing her wedding, but also because we've become friends... she has helped me with NUMEROUS weddings over the years, as Ann Marie is also a photographer. Anyway... she and Rob are soon to celebrate their fourth anniversary, and they seriously needed to stop using their engagement pics for their holiday cards, etc, so we got together last night in Keene to make it happen. I loved every minute of it, even though there were 3 locations and 3 outfits (which we still managed to get done in just a little over an hour!). Happy viewing, friends!

we started out at Dartbrook Lodge, a place that is special to both Ann Marie & Rob and Chris & me (if you want a quiet getaway, this is the place!).

Of course, Ann Marie needed some updated portraits for her blog! Still such a stunner!

    throw Rob in... viola!

    L-O-V-E this one!! a lot.

    sweetness...

    another portrait.

i really love this one (playing with a rented macro- 100mm f/.2.8- it is awesome!)

then we went to the Cascade lakes... the sun was gone from there, but I still loved these shaded ones a lot.

    the water was glass!

lastly, we went down Adirondack Log road a smidge. THe most spectacular views are on this road, but unfortunately, the sun was going the wrong direction to show those off without wretched light across their faces, so this will do...

and a little flare to close (the whole reason we went up the mountain was to get some flare!). worth it. :-)
