T his is a monster post. Just a heads up. If you are on your way out the door, leave the computer now and come back when you have more than just a minute because this one is going to take a while. ;-)
Michelle & Dan were married on Sunday at Top of the World Golf Resort in Lake George. It was a nasty day. I mean, real gross outside. One of those days where it just pours, and it is overcast and foggy... and it never shows a flicker of sun. And, Michelle & Dan had planned an outdoor event... so I went to the wedding a little nervous of how everyone's spirits would be due to the weather. But, I was so excited to find this couple so focused on the end point of BEING MARRIED that they did not seem phased by the rain. So much so that they were MORE than happy to go out in the strong rain for pictures! Most of my rain brides want to wait for the rain to let up or just stay indoors, but Michelle was ready to go! They both totally had the attitude that you only get to do this once... this is the one shot to get wedding day photos, and rain won't hold them back from that! SO... we were all over the place! Anyhow, I am sure you will enjoy witnessing the joy of these two. Happy viewing, friends!!
I used to ignore the groom getting ready part of the day... never again. The groom is just as much a part of the day as the bride! |

I absolutely love this shot! The groom's brother and nephew getting ready. So glad I didn't miss that.

My friend and former wedding client Ann Marie Somma joined me for most of the day to capture a second angle, and she just FLIPPED when she saw the bride's shoes. She always notices shoes and brands when we shoot together. (If I am honest, I have to say that I wear shoes until they fall apart, so while I can appreciate beautiful shoes, I am way too practical with my own to completely and totally appreciate designer shoes... but these are very pretty!)

There is something about the moment that the bride gets into her dress... it is such a special moment... so special that it is hard for anyone in the room NOT to smile... but Michelle's smile tops the cake. ;-)

Okay, I have been to enough weddings now that I don't really get too too emotional at them (especially since I am usually so focused on what I am doing that I don't always hear everything said)... but, Michelle & Dan's vows were AWESOME. I teared up... twice.

Mim Frantz was the coordinator at this event, and she did a great job at making a a plain white tent look so festive and elegant on VERY short notice (too bad the weather isn't determined months in advance). :-)

MARRIED!! gosh, what joy they share! (yes, folks, it was raining when I took this, and no, they are not covered by umbrellas)

You can see all of the rain drops in this image... we were getting ready to walk over a bridge. No lie, they were in no big rush to get out of the rain. I can't get over it.

Okay, it totally looks like he is reaching for something, but he was putting her down after picking her up. I love the joy in this one... and the textures and drops in the pond.

Just an impromptu dance in the rain... :-)

just another ring shot on the program... except this was a surprise part of the program... a little cut-out on the back.

One problem with shooting through a window when your subjects are inside and you want them to do or stand somewhere specific... no one else knows... including the flower girl looking onward. :-)

this may be my favorite image of the day. how sweet is this?!

Michelle & Dan are great dancers! And they had a wonderful band to heighten the excitement!! I have about a million favorites of them dancing (even just from a half hour of shooting dancing moments)... here are two of them...

love the motion in her dress on this one...

Thanks so much to everyone who was a part of the day! It was a great one!

O n Saturday afternoon, I met up with the Rurak family... complete with four year old twin boys! We had originally planned on a more confined space, but once we started talking about the session, it became clear that the boys would need some wide open spaces. So... we went to my old stand-by John Brown Farm. And, I am so glad we did. These boys were constantly on the move, and I loved EVERY minute of it!! Buckle up for this one. ;-) Happy viewing, friends!!
meet Matthew & Christopher... they like to jump off things. |

Matthew liked jumped off more stable things... dad needed to step in before Christopher knocked over this wobbly thing. :-)

the boys LOVED to run. (chasing after them counts as a work out, right? haha!)

Of course, it isn't a great idea to touch my equipment, but I had to ignore that for a minute to take this picture... yes, that is one of the boy's hand over my lens, perfectly framing mom and dad.

here's a better idea, kids... stick your face right in my camera. haha! (they took turns doing this). :-)

of course, we had to make silly faces!

... but we still got one for grandma. (how cute are they?!!)

i WAS trying to get a pic of mom and dad alone... such is life.

ahh... there we go. we had to get off the boys' favorite toy (the rock!) to get a split moment.

and this!!! I had such a blast with you all!!

Katherine - Class of 2010 |

S orry to make this commentary short, but Chris and I are about to go unplugged (or at least I am) for a few days in order to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary (and his birthday!). So... short and sweet. Kat is yet another beautiful senior. Her family is putting the finishing touches on their new home on Lake Champlain, and she absolutely had to have your portraits taken there. So, I met up with her and her mom tonight at their new home... it is beautiful! One of my favorite smells is the smell of a new home... new wood and sawdust. mmm! Anyway... Kat is gorgeous, and I thoroughly enjoyed photographing her. I am going to miss these senior portraits (though there are still a few more coming). Happy viewing, friends!
(love this one... a lot!) |

thanks so much, Kat! I hope you stayed up to view these! ;-)

Claire Anna at Eight Months |

T omorrow, Claire turns eight months old. Each stage she goes thru, I keep thinking that it won't get more fun than it already is... and then, she gets more fun. Yesterday, Chris and I took our little Claire Anna to the neighborhood park for her monthly portraits... and Chris got to push her in the swing. She LOVED it. She was laughing and squealing like she'd never been on a swing before (well, it WAS only her second time). Anyway, we have so much fun with her... we are so blessed to have our little Squeaker in our lives... blessing us everyday with her enthusiasm and curiosity... and pure joy! Claire Anna, one day, you will look back at these pictures I took of you every month and see just how much we love you and just how quickly you changed before our eyes. Happy viewing, friends!
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! |

look at that, already holding on tight!

this is a common look. I think it comes straight from her daddy.

when mommy gets too close with the lens, baby gets to curious to keep her hands off.

gosh I love her features... her eyelashes (so jealous), her lips... her little nose... and TINY fingers.

so, she's been pulling herself up to standing lately, and I wanted to show that milestone. but, the monkey bars were too tall or too short. here's what Claire thinks of this...

i think she was legitimately trying to figure out if she could climb up these.

yummy yummy! don't you just want to chew on her cheeks?!

this next series makes me want to run out and buy some huge canvas gallery wraps! LOVE the little leaves falling (yes, fall has begun and will peak in a week or so).

we call this next one her bossy pose. she does it often. this time, though, she was trying to take off her hat. she was successful. :-)

T hank you for waiting... a whole two days after their wedding for the full preview. Yes, I posted their ultra light preview while they were still in their wedding garb, but now they are probably in t-shirts and shorts on their way to Hawaii (thank you, facebook, for that info). ;-) So, now, it is time for the full preview and the story that goes along with it. Do you remember Cat & Joe's engagement session? I so enjoyed going to the fair with them. It is funny, but I can usually tell whether clients are going to great based on our first few emails and phone call... I have to share some clips from those first emails just to tell you what I mean...
email number 2 (after the initial form email from the site, and my decline for not being available their date):
"When I told my fiance you weren't available on our date, he asked if you could be available September 12 since we haven't signed the contract for our date yet."
email number 3:
"I'll be honest - I've been looking at your work off and on for about a year now, since my fiance first mentioned getting married in the Adirondacks. The two things Joe and I want to prioritize are the wedding/reception site (he loves the mountains and fall colors) and the photography. We're not really camera-loving people, so we want someone with the skill and creativity to capture the best moments of the day without making us uncomfortable, which is the sense I get from your photos. Your pricing, while we don't have the largest budget, would be worth it to us."
and then... if she wasn't already in the makings of a dream client... she made me laugh. out loud. before I sent her the contract, she sent me a picture of her and Joe. She was nervous that I screen my clients since they all seem to be so good-looking. haha! well, Cat & Joe, I could not have been happier that you rescheduled your wedding for my services. You have been some of the best people to work for! Your enthusiasm for my work and excitement for your new marriage has been such a joy to witness. Congrats to you both! And happy viewing to everyone else!
Joe getting ready... (there were too many faves from Cat getting ready for me to even come close to narrowing it down, so... you get Joe this time) |

okay, so... in the Ultra Preview, you saw them pouring sand into their unity jar (or whatever that is called)... What you didn't know is why they looked so elated to be doing so. (b/c let's face it, most people are pretty somber during that part of the ceremony)... The jar that Joe's mom was going to be brought up to the table was left under her chair, unbeknownst to her. And, well, she knocked it over, and it broke! So... Joe and Cat could not help but laugh... a lot... at his broken and half emptied vase of sand.

I absolutely love this pic! Cat & Joe really wanted to hunt out the few trees at the Lake Placid Golf Club that were already changing... we found them! And... some tall patch of grass! Love it!

poor guys, this was the sky they got married with.

some leaves decided to fall on the ground just for them, also. too sweet!

I love that they know how to make each other laugh (cuts my job responsibilities down in half!). ;-)

so... on our first in-person meeting, Cat informed me that her dad had bought shoes for wedding some twenty-something years ago (or at least a VERY long time ago), so she HAD to have a picture of them somehow... here was my idea...

Cat is pretty detail-oriented... check out her design work!

first dance. i love it when there is still some natural light coming into the dining room at the Golf Club...

I think Cat & Joe read my mind... I had snapped a few shots of guests out on the patio once it got dark, and I kept thinking... "maybe I should interrupt Cat & Joe and see if they can hang out out here for a minute while I get some shots." well, before I could ask, they went out to enjoy the cool night (it was getting warm on the dance floor)... they danced a little, and once they thought I had disappeared back into the building, they ended with a kiss. (I was the creep in the window snapping away). haha!

Congrats again, guys! Enjoy Hawaii!
